STORES in the western town of Balamban, Cebu will no longer be able to use plastic bags to hold merchandise purchased by customers starting May 2, 2023.

The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (Menro) of Balamban has issued a notice about the ban to all businesses, including groceries and sari-sari stores, saying it is part of its implementation of Republic Act 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.

Menro encouraged customers and vendors to prepare eco-friendly bags and other alternatives to serve as containers for purchases. (PAC, PJB)
